This week we are profiling Controlling 2014 speaker Kent Bettisworth, President & Executive Consultant of Bettisworth & Associates.
How did you get your start with SAP and SAP Controlling?
While working at Exxon in the early 1990’s we chose SAP as our ERP system. At the time, I managed the accountants as well as the project and fixed asset systems for Exxon USA Downstream (shipping, marketing, refining, pipeline, HQ). I was recruited for the project team to manage the implementation and migration from these project and asset disconnected systems to a single integrated system. I left the project team, after a successful pilot in mid-1995 to start my own consulting company…the rest is history.
What is one of the most important trends that you see currently in SAP Controlling?
The most important trend is two-fold. 1) Teach the employees new to their Controlling area (as they take over from long-time, and often original members of the SAP implementation), and 2) understand the 3 ways to influence SAP direction in the product (improvements, customer engagement, long-term solutions). Involvement in conferences such as Controlling 2014 are key to understanding these trends.
In your opinion, why does SAP Controlling matter?
SAP Controlling matters because it goes to the core of any company’s ability to analyze financial activity and extract actionable activities affecting operations, and the bottom line.
How do you stay on top of Controlling topics? What resources do you regularly use?
Involvement with customers, active participation in ASUG, regular webinar sessions, and attending conferences such as Controlling 2014.
What was your most important take away from Controlling 2012 and 2013?
The community is alive and well, and there is a hunger to know more, and do more for their company with SAP’s Controlling module.
Where is your favorite place to vacation and why?
My new home on Lake Houston because I don’t have to travel very far to enjoy a great day of fishing, boating, wildlife watching, or just plain relaxing.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I am looking forward to another great Controlling conference in San Diego in 2014!
