Controlling 2014 was my 3rd year in a row attending the Controlling conference. I thought I would take a moment to provide a perspective from someone who has implemented SAP Controlling at Rockwell Automation for ten years and just recently went back to the business to support Operations Finance and transition to an SAP end user.
For ten years, I focused on implementing SAP globally primarily with regards to Product Costing, Cost Centers, and Profit Centers. While attending the conference in 2012 and 2013, my focus on attending sessions was around my areas of expertise related to SAP implementation. Now that I am back in Finance, my perspective has changed and I have focused more on key areas that affect me like Fixed Assets and Project Systems. I also found that while I knew how to implement the key areas of Product Costing as we went live in various sites around the world, I did not necessarily understand the day-to-day needs to support analytics and causals. I was able to come to the conference in 2014 with specific issues that I experience on a daily basis and seek feedback from both presenters and from other attendees on ways to improve how I utilize SAP. The post-conference workshop on Wednesday allowed me to offer guidance on how SAP Controlling was implemented in Rockwell and at the same time gather ideas and best practices from others to support my day-to-day job duties supporting Operations.
For this reason, I highly recommend the annual Controlling conference whether you are part of an implementation team, or whether you are an end user.
