This week we are profiling Controlling 2014 speaker Joe Cravero, Project Manager on the SAP Financial and Controlling’s Enterprise CO (Controlling) support team at Deere & Company.
How did you get your start with SAP and SAP Controlling?
I got my start with SAP in 1999 at Deere & Company. We already had some units live on R/3 and a score of European units on R/2. I primarily worked on Report Painter and SL in those early years, and moved into GL and CO planning areas, and then Product Costing (2003/2004) and Actual Costing subtopics (orders, settlements, WBS).
What is one of the most important trends that you see currently in SAP Controlling?
New planning platforms. We are in the midst of adopting BW-IP on HANA.
In your opinion, why does SAP Controlling matter?
The major areas where we work hard to make sure we have no issues: inventory valuation, department budget processing, and removing unsettled WIP.
How do you stay on top of Controlling topics? What resources do you regularly use?
I generally read release notes and SAP Notes for the releases that pertain to the platforms that we are upgrading to. Events like SAP Controlling and webcasts through ERP Corp and ASUG.
What are you looking forward to about Controlling 2014?
Mainly I want to reconnect with some resources from SAP and other companies. I never get to do that in my daily work.
Where is your favorite place in the world and why?
I really have enjoyed my time in Moline. We get to enjoy all four seasons, so my kids can go sledding and skiing in winter, or enjoy time at a neighborhood pool in summer. Traffic and prices are not too bad, unlike the big cities, and there are more things to do, unlik
